My art work is eclectic in style, use of mediums, and subject matter. Many of my recent paintings employ a combination of abstract, realistic, and surreal elements. I enjoy painting and drawing with oil, acrylic, watercolor, and pastel. I don't have a favorite medium, as each has a unique feel and quality in the process of creating art. My ideas and images are inspired and influenced by realism, expressionism, and surrealism movements, but mostly by nature including landscape, water, figures, flowers, and animals. Moon Goddess, 2008, is a patterned and symmetrical composition using geometric and organic shapes surrounding the form of a woman. I wanted this piece to be colorful, decorative, and transparent to emulate the affect of stained glass. The image speaks of female identity, strength, and the cyclical and mysterious aspects of gaining spiritual and personal growth. My interests as an artist also include ceramics and photography.
